Fyrgearwunga (Materials for a Fire):

for now, PG-13;

and poised before Arthur/Merlin re-discovered an (arbitrary) thirteen years later, but with all the romantic trappings of a thorny Arthurian canon (following Malory and the Pearl poet, with Merlin conveniently still at court).
It tries simultaneously to remain faithful to Merlin (which, oh god, I watch, and which, for better or for worse, inspired this) departing from the premise that such a different beginning would no doubt make for a very altered conclusion;

and I should warn that it is some sort of exercise in re-imagining tragedy, at the end of Camelot, with spoilers for every episode so far, just to be safe;

and acknowledge that Arthur's ignorance probably crept in here from [livejournal.com profile] thehoyden's Anniversary, and the line referencing marriage and death, I am certain, came through a memory of something [livejournal.com profile] resonant8 wrote, both unintentionally and with much respect.
