Easy There
(Jan-March 2009 (WIP, to be completed shortly))
Arthur is an Oxford Blue. Merlin is an Oxford cox. Lancelot is Merlin's romantic-dalliance-loving friend. Morgana is horribly clever; Gwen is cleverly waiting for Lancelot to grow up. Merlin and Arthur rub each other the wrong way, at first, but it soon becomes clear that Arthur is a university-class rower with a world-class heart (yes, I typed that). Clichés ensue.

A Very Serious Business Story (March 2009; Merlin/Babysitters' Club crossover. Er.), ~8,800 words. A direct result of [ profile] nicolasechs's "Wishlist of Crack":
1. Gwen/(Claudia) Morgana goodness; 2. SURFING, including but not limited to, Arthur teaching Merlin how to surf and making fun of how pale Merlin is. And/or beach volleyball; 3. Nimueh seducing Arthur, which leads to MISUNDERSTANDINGS between him and Merlin; 4. Merlin rescuing Arthur from certain doom from each of the mothers (all of whom have a vendetta against Uther or the Pendragon family or some such); 5. Lance/Arthur BONDING (but not in a bad touch sort of way); 6. Merlin gets tipsy (WARNING: underage drinking), and there are confessions; 7. MAGIC; 8. UNICORNS; 9. RAINBOWS; 10. The kids put on a show! (May or may not lead to complete abandonment of morals and flouting of sexual mores, etc.); 11. Aforementioned kid kits of awesome by Merlin and Arthur and Gwen and Morgana; 12. And finally, narwhals, AKA THE UNICORNS OF THE OCEAN.

Three Tasks
(December 2008), ~30,600 words.
Arthur is the Royal Arbiter for Suitable Suitors' Disputes. He (and his trusty companion, the golden-dragon-tasselled hat) alone can determine who is fit to woo royal servants and other assorted courtiers in Uther's court. (In light of the preceding sentence, the following may not appear to be a truthful statement, but: not as cracky as that makes it sound. Really.)
In Part One: Arthur arbitrates a dispute (with heretofore unforeseen wisdom); Merlin observes. In Part Two: in a Rather Predictable Set of Events, Merlin becomes the object of a Suitable Suitors' Dispute. Arthur attempts to arbitrate. This time, he does not do so well.

Fyrgearwunga (Materials for a Fire)
(December 2008- (WIP))
Some sort of exercise in re-imagining tragedy, at the end of Camelot, with a view to making it--well, not tragic.

okay this might be a tad presumptuous but i LOVE your story Three Tasks but for some reason - and I'm not sure why and I've checked back over several days and it never changes - my browser only shows me part of each chapter. I was wondering if you could email me the story if you don't mind because I've been wanting to read it again for ages and i haven't been able to :( :( :(

if you're willing, my email is would be fantastic, but i also understand if it would be too much of a bother. thanks so much!

Oh, gosh, it would be no bother at all--I'm thrilled you want to read it and would be happy to send it along.

My hard drive unfortunately imploded after I finished writing Three Tasks, so I do not have a hard Word copy of it anymore, though I do have a .pdf of my livejournal around somewhere. I'll pick out the relevant pages and make you a file this afternoon, if that's okay.

LJ drives me mad sometimes--I've been thinking about archiving my stories somewhere in html format, but I've yet to find a home for them somewhere on the interwebs. I shall renew my efforts, now.

I hope you're well, and thanks for letting me know about this!

Hello! I am a random who has been sucked into the fandom and cannot escape. I am in love with your Merlin and so I just had to friend you in order to stalk him. :) Also, you seem pretty cool too. So. Anyway, just thought I'd drop you a line.

[ profile] kaetian! I just wanted to reply to this (I'm moving through every comment in my journal over the next two months, and I will come out on the other side), and say: as you know, I'm sure, there are few randomer people than I, and I'm glad you decided to friend me. I'm also thrilled you enjoy my Merlin (he comes and goes from my head, that one), and wanted to thank you for saying something so lovely.

I hope you're well!

Oh, god, [ profile] dicedpair, when I first watched these, I laughed and laughed and laughed, and possibly high-pitch squealed more than once.

Thank you so much for leaving this link here, which made me smile a lot.

Katy! I'm sorry it's taken me so long to reply to this comment (I have a sort of February-March resolution to get to each of my comments; the last year has been a bit mad), but: I am sorry Easy There kept you up, but I'm very very happy you enjoyed it. I'm also really happy you've friended me; I rarely post anything but fiction, but I hope you enjoy it.

Thank you for taking the time to say something so lovely about my stories; it's really appreciated and very generous of you.

Er--I'm six weeks late to this party, [ profile] glorafin, but I am thrilled you enjoyed Easy There, truly, and happy you friended me; of course I don't mind!

Thank you for taking the time to leave such lovely kind feedback.

Oh dear, I'm pretty sure this isn't where I'm supposed to ask, but would you mind if I wanted to podfic Seven Magpies and In Want of a Wife? Unless they're already being done that is :)
If you want to hear what I sound like first, I've done some podfics that you can download here for a test drive.

um... greetings, earthling!

so i come to you by a weird and roundabout way: i listen to podfic to help alleviate roadrage (srsly, how angry can some douchebag's lack of turn signals make you when you are knee-deep in a story?), and there are several readers whose voices i have found especially congenial. one of these is penny plain knits, so without knowing anything about it except that it was long--always a good thing for longer trips--i began listening to three tasks. i have listened to it five times, at least, by now and penny's wonderful richly-inflected voice has become my default internal voice for ALL merlin fics... and you have become my new favourite author. may i friend you? and as if the awesome fic were not enough, there's OLD ENGLISH in your title (one of my first loves: i took my first degree in medieval studies, and read the pearl whenever life hurts)! i feel the need to support this. there is not enough old english knowledge in this world. so, uh, in sum: hi. *curtseys*

Hello! I just wanted to pop by and tell you how I loved your fic, Three Tasks. It was so lovely! I will forever giggle over Bradley James in lilac. ^__^

So, anyway, I thought I'd friend you since I'm sure I'll enjoy your other fic just as much as I enjoyed Three Tasks! I'm sure you're great, too! ;)

See you around!
