Easy There
(Jan-March 2009 (WIP, to be completed shortly))
Arthur is an Oxford Blue. Merlin is an Oxford cox. Lancelot is Merlin's romantic-dalliance-loving friend. Morgana is horribly clever; Gwen is cleverly waiting for Lancelot to grow up. Merlin and Arthur rub each other the wrong way, at first, but it soon becomes clear that Arthur is a university-class rower with a world-class heart (yes, I typed that). Clichés ensue.

A Very Serious Business Story (March 2009; Merlin/Babysitters' Club crossover. Er.), ~8,800 words. A direct result of [livejournal.com profile] nicolasechs's "Wishlist of Crack":
1. Gwen/(Claudia) Morgana goodness; 2. SURFING, including but not limited to, Arthur teaching Merlin how to surf and making fun of how pale Merlin is. And/or beach volleyball; 3. Nimueh seducing Arthur, which leads to MISUNDERSTANDINGS between him and Merlin; 4. Merlin rescuing Arthur from certain doom from each of the mothers (all of whom have a vendetta against Uther or the Pendragon family or some such); 5. Lance/Arthur BONDING (but not in a bad touch sort of way); 6. Merlin gets tipsy (WARNING: underage drinking), and there are confessions; 7. MAGIC; 8. UNICORNS; 9. RAINBOWS; 10. The kids put on a show! (May or may not lead to complete abandonment of morals and flouting of sexual mores, etc.); 11. Aforementioned kid kits of awesome by Merlin and Arthur and Gwen and Morgana; 12. And finally, narwhals, AKA THE UNICORNS OF THE OCEAN.

Three Tasks
(December 2008), ~30,600 words.
Arthur is the Royal Arbiter for Suitable Suitors' Disputes. He (and his trusty companion, the golden-dragon-tasselled hat) alone can determine who is fit to woo royal servants and other assorted courtiers in Uther's court. (In light of the preceding sentence, the following may not appear to be a truthful statement, but: not as cracky as that makes it sound. Really.)
In Part One: Arthur arbitrates a dispute (with heretofore unforeseen wisdom); Merlin observes. In Part Two: in a Rather Predictable Set of Events, Merlin becomes the object of a Suitable Suitors' Dispute. Arthur attempts to arbitrate. This time, he does not do so well.

Fyrgearwunga (Materials for a Fire)
(December 2008- (WIP))
Some sort of exercise in re-imagining tragedy, at the end of Camelot, with a view to making it--well, not tragic.

um... greetings, earthling!

so i come to you by a weird and roundabout way: i listen to podfic to help alleviate roadrage (srsly, how angry can some douchebag's lack of turn signals make you when you are knee-deep in a story?), and there are several readers whose voices i have found especially congenial. one of these is penny plain knits, so without knowing anything about it except that it was long--always a good thing for longer trips--i began listening to three tasks. i have listened to it five times, at least, by now and penny's wonderful richly-inflected voice has become my default internal voice for ALL merlin fics... and you have become my new favourite author. may i friend you? and as if the awesome fic were not enough, there's OLD ENGLISH in your title (one of my first loves: i took my first degree in medieval studies, and read the pearl whenever life hurts)! i feel the need to support this. there is not enough old english knowledge in this world. so, uh, in sum: hi. *curtseys*
