“Do you?” he asked.

If Arthur hadn’t known better, he would have said Merlin’s tone was… goading. For a peculiar and utterly inexplicable moment Arthur felt tempted to describe it as heavy with the pull and the hope of a seduction. He opened his mouth to say something, feeling completely bewildered, but nothing came out.

Yep, I think I'm also rendered speechless, though, alas, only temporarily.

[livejournal.com profile] syllic, I have so damn much to say about this fic (more than you could ever possibly want to read) and all of it in a ridiculously squeaky voice of wonder and delight and joy and so on and so forth.

But, uh, for the moment, let's limit it to how wonderful this particular section is and how I cannot help but think that they are both in so much deeper than they know.

{Oh, and the shifting sands on which they're standing -- it's so perfect that Arthur knows -- how could he know or Morgana, Merlin or Gwen -- so little about the intricacies of the court before the purge. I keep thinking, anachronistic early-modern/colonialist that I am, about the Reformation and Counter-Reformation, but the same hidden loyalties rising to the surface with each regime change. Oh, as I didn't say this before, Lancelot's awkwardness is so damn delightful; that's a refreshing spin on how he becomes the perfect knight.]
